Check the Battery Pack

To check the battery pack, do the following From Software 2. In Power Meter, confirm that if the parameters shown in the screen for Current Power Source and Total Battery Power Remaining are correct. 2. Remove the battery pack and measure the voltage between battery terminals 1(+) and 6(ground). See the following figure To check the battery charge operation, use a discharged battery pack or a battery pack that has less than 50 of the total power remaining when installed in the computer. If the battery status indicator does not light up, remove the battery pack and let it return to room temperature. Re-install the battery pack. If the charge indicator still does not light up, replace the battery pack. If the charge indicator still does not light up, replace the DC DC charger board.

Handling the Computer Battery Pack

The battery pack furnished with the computer requires reasonable care and handling to ensure efficient operation and maximum life. Periodically inspect the battery terminals and the batteries for evidence of corrosion and oxide build-up clean if necessary. To ensure that the battery packs endure normal life cycle, always observe the following precautions when handling the battery packs Do not drop the battery pack or subject it to excessive shock and vibration. Do not expose the battery pack to direct sunlight, moisture, or chemical compounds. Do not disassemble the battery pack. Do not use the battery pack to power other devices. Never attempt to charge the battery pack in any way other than as described in this manual. Always charge the battery pack as soon as possible after a low battery indication.

Responding to a Low Battery Condition

When you are operating the computer on battery power and the charge remaining is down to between 10 and 20 , the battery-low indicator blinks and an audible alarm sounds. When this happens you should take the following actions to conserve battery power and reduce the possibility of data loss. Saving files Save all open files frequently while the computer is in a low-battery condition.

Removing Replacing the Notebook Battery Pack

Before performing any of the assembly disassembly procedures, always disconnect the AC adapter from the notebook and remove the battery pack. The procedure for removing and replacing the battery pack is as follows 5. Insert the replacement battery with THIS SIDE UP label facing upwards until it snaps in place and then close the battery compartment door (reverse of Steps 2 and 3.

Installing the Battery Packs

The standard configuration of the Extensa Notebook is equipped with a single battery pack that is inserted from the front right side of the computer. However, if you can do without the Floppy Drive, you can use the floppy drive bay to house a second Lithium Ion battery pack. To remove or replace the battery pack, follow the steps below. 3. Insert a new or recharged battery pack into the battery compartment bay. Make sure that the contacts are facing up and to the rear of the compartment. Check the label (facing up when inserted) indicating the positive and negative poles of the battery. Caution There is danger of explosion if the battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace the battery only with the same or an equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer. Discard used batteries according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Responding to Low Battery Conditions

The computer generally will notify you when you are reaching a low battery The battery low warning is automatically disabled when the AC Adapter is installed on the notebook, regardless of the charge condition of the battery pack. If the AC adapter is not plugged in within three minutes of a detected battery low condition, the notebook enters Suspend mode (if low battery suspend is specified in setup). When the notebook enters Suspend mode, it issues one beep, saves contents of RAM to disk and powers down the unit.
